About Burley Bees

My name is Andrea Williams and I live in Burley-in-Wharfedale with my 3 children and my husband Ben. I am  a Registered Childminder (Ofsted EY468126); offering day and wraparound care, picking up from Burley Oaks (which my eldest son attends). The motto here at Burley Bees is Play, Share, Care.

Play, Share, Care

At Burley Bees the focus is on play; through play children learn about the world around them and about who they are. It helps to improve their confidence, social skills and self-esteem.

We encourage sharing, not only sharing toys, but sharing experiences and knowledge so that we can learn from each other.

We will care for your children and encourage a caring environment in which we care for ourselves, each other and the world around us.

We love being outdoors and have a great garden in which we dig, grow, observe and play. We are close to all the local facilities in Burley, and regularly visit the library, park and playgroups. We love to explore our local area, (especially the Cow and Calf rocks, Middleton woods and Swinsty reservoir!) and are always on the lookout for new and exciting places to explore.

Indoors, we have a huge range of toys, games, books, puzzles, den building bits and pieces, and dressing up clothes to suit all interests. We love making stuff too, from butterfly feeders, to magicians wands, to top hats, to telescopes, to bunting. One of the most commonly used phrases in our house is “don’t throw that away, I can make something with that”!

For children joining us for afterschool sessions, we will aim to support school activities and will encourage children to share what they are learning, so that we can all learn together. We regularly have themed days, where we make flags from different countries, look at animals and language and link in with different meals such as Italian nights, curry nights etc, to encourage children to eat and try different foods and to think about different cultures.

We watch television sparingly, and will discuss with parents what access to internet, games and tv they would like their child to have.

My background

Prior to having children, I worked in financial services before studying to be a Dietitian. I then studied for a PhD for a while before deciding to take some time out to be with my children. I have loved being at home with them so much, helping them to discover and explore, that I decided to change direction and become a childminder. I have completed the CYPOP 5 course and Paediatric First Aid as required by Ofsted and the local authority. I am also about to start the Level 3 Childcare course to help develop my knowledge.
